This is the scene where Ray and Claude talks about leaving prison and how they were going to do it. The back lights was to set the mood for this scene and showed where the camera focused on a close up shot of the two men. There was low-key lighting involved in this scene even though it appeared to be daylight from the background seen in the photo. The scene above is about Ray was being asked from one of the inmates about giving up his piece of cornbread. (Goodykoontz & Jacobs, 2014)įrom the high lighting in this scene lets the viewer know it was a sunny day outside and allows the shadow of the two men to show through. This type of lighting high lights the darkest and brightest parts of the scene. Now in the scene where Ray and Claude was made to stand on bottle crates, there was what you call high-key lighting which brings in lots of brightness to a scene. There were also some brightness from this scene, but very little. In the move Life, there was some low-key lighting used, especially in the scene where Ray and Claude was running through the woods from barking dogs. Film: From watching to seeing (2nd ed.) The camera closes in on Claude again as he is dumped into the water again. As Ray and Spanky are talking, you can hear the others in the background to make it more realistic. The sound effects from the splashing of water when Claude was thrown in it really enhance the tensity shown from the dealer’s boys. With the sound of shoes scrolling across the wooded floor made the movie come to life. The tension being displayed highlighted the sound effects to capture the attention of the audience. In the beginning of the clip, Claude and ray was trying to make a deal with a big time dealer name Spanky who wasn’t having it. ( Goodykoontz & Jacobs, C P (2014), sound effects which include any sounds in the background to enhance the film’s qualities, and music to add in emotions, feelings and style to the scene. Dialogue, in which the casts conversate with one another. He didn’t have a big role in the film, what little part he did play, his role enhanced the film’s credits and helped it become a huge success in the movie industry. A fight breaks out between Goldmouth and Ray, of course Goldmouth loses the fight and becomes friends with Ray. When I first saw this scene, I was waiting to see what happened when he didn’t get the cornbread. I think his role captured many viewers with this line alone. He played as Goldmouth and was known for the phrase, “you gon eat yo cornbread”. Michael Taliferro, was the one I chose to focus on, with his role of being the big scary man on the set was somewhat interesting. Each of these characters role came to life with different characteristics from the three. Mac’s role wasn’t shown a lot in the film, but it was considered an important one to highlight the prison scene. Jangle Leg brought humor to the set along with his guy friend, Biscuit who died later on in the movie. Then there was Bernie Mac who played the role of Jangle Leg, a homosexual in the film. He was Ray Gibson partner in the film, Claude had a little bite in him but not as much as Ray. He was falsely accused of murdering a man outside a club. Martin Lawrence, another actor who played the role of Claude Banks was considered to be very honest and down to earth. He aggressively ask Ray if he was going to eat his cornbread, and of course Rar answered yes, and the rest was history.Įven though Goldmouth was a big and mean man, he too had to humble himself to make it in such a place like prison. In the prison scene, Goldmouth was accompanied with two inmates by the name of Ray and Claude during lunchtime. Michael was known for the big guy who loved cornbread and wouldn’t stop at nothing to get it. I had three actors in mind to describe and give reference to the film “Life”.įirst, the actor Michael Taliferro, who played the role of Goldmouth. Using, props, makeup and wearing certain costumes can assist their roles as well. Actors have different ways to bring their roles to life by using thse elements to make them look real. Actors play a huge important part in a film in which a director guides them to enhance the plot to capture the attention of the audience.
